The Tourism Editor of the Nigerian Tribune newspapers, Mr. Wale Olapade, has been named the Top Travel Communicator in Nigeria in the 2025/2026 edition of the Travellers Awards by ATQ News and Travellers Magazine.
The organisers said the award celebrates his outstanding contribution to Nigeria’s travel and tourism industry, particularly his consistent work in communicating and promoting travel destinations, tourism products and experiences.
The Travellers Awards were instituted in 1996 to honour individuals, organisations and businesses that have distinguished themselves in aviation, travel and tourism and have contributed to the development of the sector in Nigeria and across Africa.
Travellers Magazine, first published in 1993, is described as the first travel magazine published in West Africa, while http://ATQNews.com, established in 2014, has grown into one of the continent’s leading travel news platforms.
The latest honour adds to a growing list of recognitions for the Tribune’s Tourism Editor, who also serves as the National Publicity Secretary of the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria, FTAN.

Through his specialised Travelpulse and MICE pages in the Nigerian Tribune, Olapade has consistently projected Nigeria’s tourism potential to both local and international audiences.
He was previously named Tourism Media Advocate of the Year at the International Tourism Summit in Oyo State in 2025, an award presented by the Oyo State Deputy Governor, Mr, Bayo Lawal. He also received the Outstanding Tourism Advocate Award at the National Tourism Transportation Summit in 2024, and was named Best Tourism Journalist of the Year at the Nigeria Tourism Awards in 2020 during Nigeria Travel Week.
Other recognitions include Best Travel Print Media of the Year and induction into the NANTA Media Hall of Fame by the National Association of Nigerian Travel Agencies in 2021, the Fatima Garbati Foundation Special Grant for Journalists as one of five tourism editors selected nationwide, the Nigeria Media Merit Award Adamu Mu’azu Prize for Tourism Reporting in 2014, the Travellinks Merit Award in 2013, and the Youth Tourism Club of Nigeria Award for Excellence in 2009.
Industry stakeholders say the ATQ News recognition further underscores the critical role of the media in driving domestic tourism, investment and destination marketing in Nigeria and across Africa.
