Following the dispute and leadership crisis that has engulfed the Association of Tourism Practitioners of Nigeria, ATPN, the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria, FTAN has stepped in to resolve the crisis and bring sanity to the association.Against this background, the FTAN President, Dr. Aliyu Badaki has set up a 5 man Dispute Resolution Committee to resolve the crisis. The committee is made up of veterans in the tourism industry nominated by the National Executive Council of FTAN. Badaki gave the Terms of Reference of the Committee to Include: To Investigate the root causes of the dispute between the parallel governments.Hear submissions from all relevant parties, including the two leadership factions, stakeholders, and concerned members of ATPN.Review all legal, constitutional, and electoral provisions of ATPN as they relate to the leadership dispute.Facilitate mediation between the disputing parties towards reconciliation and unity.Recommend a clear, fair, and legally sustainable resolution to the conflict. Propose mechanisms to prevent future leadership disputes in ATPN.The nominated members for the Reconciliation Committee on the ATPN leadership crisis include:1. Alh. Mohamed Sheriff2. Mrs. Uloma Kemabonta3. Dr. Emmanuel Jeminiwa4. Mr. Precious Okonji5. Rev. Akindele JohnIt will be recalled that the Governing Council of the Association of Tourism Practitioners of Nigeria (ATPN) recently announced the suspension of Mr Femi Fadina as President and that of Mr Ayo Arokoyo, as Acting President. This was the outcome of a Governing Council meeting held on Sunday September 28, 2025. According to the Governing Council,at the meeting, Fadina was formally queried over alleged grave infractions of the ATPN Constitution. The Council found his defence and response to the allegations unsatisfactory.Following this, a disciplinary panel was raised in line with due process to further interrogate him on the allegations and present a report to the Council. However, the Council, based on due process and Constitution of ATPN named Mr Ayo Arokoyo, the First Deputy President, to take over the functions of the office of the President, in the interim, as Acting President. Arokoyo swore to uphold the tenets of the ATPN Constitution and to govern with inclusiveness. He was mandated among others to commence the process for the much-delayed inauguration of the ATPN Standing Committees. This development was dismissed by Prince Fadina who stated categorically that such claims are unconstitutional, null, and void, stating that he remains the duly elected President of ATPN and the legitimate Chairman of its Governing Council. Fadina explained that by virtue of the ATPN Constitution, the President remains the Chairman of the Governing Council and no meeting or decision of such council can be validly convened or recognized without his authority and participation. He said: “To imagine that a President would preside over his own suspension is not only laughable but a constitutional impossibility.Furthermore, the financial accounts of the last administration have not been properly handed over to this administration. I am not a signatory to any account, and it is neither an infraction nor misconduct to seek judicial interpretation of our constitution. Such actions are borne out of responsibility, not recklessness. We must ask: What legacy are we creating for the younger generation of tourism practitioners if due process and constitutional order are trampled upon? ATPN cannot be built on illegality”.He continued that: “Let it be clear to all members, stakeholders, and the Nigerian public that Prince Adetunji Femi Fadina remains the duly elected President of ATPN and the legitimate Chairman of its Governing Council until the expiration of his lawful tenure.Any parallel claims of leadership are hereby dismissed as unauthorized, unconstitutional, and lacking legitimacy”.
