Student calls out Dana Air over refusal to pay tickets refund

Nwemeh said he has fulfilled all the requirements demanded of him by the airline for a canceled flight.
Speaking to Africa Travel Herald, Nwemeh said he and his family had booked online for a flight from Owerri to Abuja in July. The flight date was August 13 but was later canceled by the airline. Nwemeh showed a letter he wrote on July 24, 2023 requesting for a refund: “I am writing to request for refunds of (sync) my canceled flight…” The total amount he paid was N176,583 for four tickets for two adults and two minors made up his wife, two children and himself.
The airline replied saying among other things: “Sincere apologies for the delayed response. Kindly note that your information has been received and has been forwarded to the appropriate department for processing, also refund takes a minimum of 22 working days…”
Since July till September, Nwemeh said Dana Airlines has refused to refund the money: “I have waited since for them to make a refund but the airline has refused. I never defaulted. I paid for the flight but for reasons best known to Dana Air, they canceled flights to Owerri within that period. I had to borrow to pay for another flight. I am a student. I don’t know why Dana should hold on to my money. Is that part of civil aviation law?”
