Ayangalu drum festival resonates in two continents

In Africa, Ife, the Ooni of Ife , His Imperial Majesty Oba Adeyeaye Enitan Ogunwusi, flanked by his Olori Queen Ronke Ademiluyi Ogunwusi who is the AyanGalu Drum Festival Global Ambassador , marked the festival with pomp and pageantry at Ojaja Arena, Ife Grand Resorts and Industrial Hub, Ife Nigeria.
On the same day, July 28, in faraway Mississauga, Ontario, Fuzion Centre, the Ayangalu drum festival was also marked with hundreds of people from different parts of the world in attendance. The Ayan Galu drum festival Canada was organized by Prince Segun Akanni adnd the Drum Media group.
In Ife, Nigeria, more than 60 cultural groups participated in the cultural festival. Forty of these groups participated is a drum competition which was won by the Kishi Group. As reward for her victory. The group also got a cash reward N500,000 from the Ooni. In addition, Oba Ogunwusi promised to sponsor the Kishi group on a trip to Canada to participate in Asa festival coming up in October. The second and third place winners were rewarded with a cash prize of N250, 000 and N150,000 respectively.
The high point of the festival was the crowning of the 2023 Face of Ayangalu Festival. A female drummer, Bisola Onibata was crowned as the Face of Ayangalu. She was rewarded with a Toyota Camry car by the Ooni.
Talking about the vision for the Ayangalu festival in Canada, the visioner, Segun Akanni had said his decision to birth the festival was part of his contribution to the growth of African culture and tradition.
