In a renewed effort to promote environmental sustainability and preserve one of Enugu State’s most treasured natural landmarks, iTour Africa, in collaboration with Tour Buddy NG, has officially launched the Restore Milliken Hill Initiative.
The community-led campaign is designed to restore, preserve, and promote the ecological, historical, and tourism value of Milliken Hill through coordinated clean-up exercises, environmental awareness campaigns, stakeholder engagement, and sustained community participation.
Milliken Hill, renowned for its breathtaking scenery and historical significance, remains one of Enugu’s most iconic destinations. However, increasing indiscriminate waste disposal and environmental degradation along the corridor have raised concerns among residents, environmental advocates, and tourism stakeholders, prompting the need for collective action.
Speaking on the initiative, the CEO of iTour Africa, Wilson Uche Co-lead of the initiative , said the campaign is more than a clean-up exercise; it is a movement to inspire environmental responsibility and reposition Milliken Hill as a world-class eco-tourism destination.
“Restore Milliken Hill is a call to action for everyone who believes in protecting our environment and preserving our heritage. Through collaboration, we can restore the beauty of this iconic landmark and create a cleaner, healthier, and more attractive destination for residents and visitors alike,” he said.
The initiative seeks to mobilise government agencies, corporate organisations, educational institutions, civil society groups, environmental advocates, community leaders, media organisations, and volunteers to champion environmental stewardship and sustainable tourism development.
Organisers noted that beyond the immediate clean-up exercise, the campaign is envisioned as a long-term environmental conservation programme that will encourage responsible waste management, promote civic participation, and strengthen partnerships for the protection of public spaces.
The organisers have called on public and private sector stakeholders, development partners, and well-meaning Nigerians to support the initiative through sponsorship, volunteering, advocacy, and strategic partnerships.
The Restore Milliken Hill Initiative reflects the shared commitment of iTour Africa and Tour Buddy NG to protecting Enugu’s natural heritage while advancing sustainable tourism, environmental resilience, and community development.
