ATPN warns against misleading membership drive, alleges impersonation

The Association of Tourism Practitioners of Nigeria (ATPN) has observed with deep concern and measured amusement the continued public misrepresentation by a certain individual, who, despite an ongoing court matter regarding the leadership of the association, has continued to parade himself as the “National President” of ATPN and has now proceeded to embark on a so-called membership drive under a disputed authority.
This action is not only misleading and cynical; it is a spectacular display of institutional impersonation wrapped in propaganda clothing and served with theatrical confidence.
One would have expected that while a matter remains before the court, caution, restraint, and respect for due process would prevail. Instead, what we are witnessing resembles a political masquerade where a man has printed the match tickets, declared himself winner, lifted the trophy, and is now recruiting spectators into a stadium whose ownership is still being contested.
ATPN is not a roadside campaign office where titles are self-awarded like complimentary souvenirs at a market square. It is a professional institution governed by constitutional order, collective values, and lawful procedures.
The association therefore states categorically that:
The leadership matter concerning ATPN remains before a competent court of law.
Any representation by Mr. Ayo as “National President” remains disputed and legally unresolved.
Any membership drive, recruitment exercise, or public representation undertaken under such controversial claims is highly questionable and capable of misleading unsuspecting stakeholders and members of the public.
It is unfortunate that at a time when the tourism industry requires intellectual leadership, strategic direction, and institutional maturity, some individuals have chosen optics over order and propaganda over principle.
The irony is almost poetic: while the court is still holding the pen, Mr. Ayo has already begun signing autographs as “President.”
Leadership is not a costume to be worn for public applause. It is not a microphone performance. It is not a social media title competition. Leadership derives legitimacy from due process, institutional recognition, and ethical conduct — not from repeated announcements and dramatic press appearances.
ATPN therefore advises all members, tourism stakeholders, government agencies, partners, and the general public to exercise caution and avoid participation in any activity capable of creating confusion, division, or institutional embarrassment while the legal process is ongoing.
We urge all parties to respect the sanctity of the court and refrain from actions that may further ridicule the integrity of the association before the public and the international tourism community.
History teaches us that propaganda may create noise for a season, but truth ultimately owns the microphone.
ATPN remains committed to peace, professionalism, constitutional governance, and the preservation of the integrity of the association.
