*All the allegations are false, says Director General

The Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA) is currently enmeshed in allegation of job racketeering and improper conduct of promotion examination for staff of the agency.

According to the allegation: “It is intriguing to note that the management of NTDA recently, somehow, employed over 40 staff without adhering to due process which according to extant rules must involve advertising vacancies on national dailies and conducting transparent exams/interviews for eligible Nigerians to benefit.” According to the allegation,   most of those employed are either children of management staff or friends and cronies of the director general of the agency.

Also, the NTDA was alleged to have completed its annual promotion exercise. The management is accused of not deferring to the supervising ministry, and that the Director, Human Resource Management of NTDA unilaterally used the process as a hounding exercise while again promoting only friends, close associates and those with some financial muscle to procure promotion.

The Africa Travel Herald reached out the Director General of the agency Mr. Folorunsho Coker for his reaction. Coker described these allegations as baseless and false. He challenged anybody interested to come and see and peruse the document. His words: “All false. Why not come and examine the files. The exams are vetted by the ministry, head of service, Federal Character Commission and Budget Office. All approvals are available.

“Instead of some staff to read and pass exams, they make false allegations when they fail. Regarding these matters, my office is opened and documents are available.”
